           Comparison of sensor systems

The system FreeStyle Libre is an easy system in comparison to the other but it is very exact. The cost for this system are low priced.

In Austria some patients get the costs of the CGM system reimbursed from their assurance.

Some patients have to pay the costs for themselves and they decide to take the low priced system FreeStyle Libre.

For the multiple dose injection therapy (MDI) is the system absolute adequate. The insulin doses for meals can exact calculated with these values.

Retrospectively the patient can easy evaluate if the daily basal insulin dose or the meal time insulin is correct.

For example: The meal time insulin dose is too small, then the glucose values go up directly after the meal. To change this problem the meal time insulin dose can be augmented.

Also, the system Medtronic Guardien2 Enlite combined with SmartGuard technology the MiniMed G640 can controlled for a CGM insulin pump therapy will used. It is in this case only 2 times per day the blood glucose is taken for calibration. However, the patient have to look after the accuracy of the system and normally the sensors should be changed after 3-6 of wearing. An admission does not exist for this application.

How to stick the systems

All systems are sticked on the skin with patches. To  extend the time period of the systems for staying on the skin, do not use tapes because the sensor accuracy goes dawn and the signals are lost very often. Better use a Skin glue (Skin Tac) to fix the sensor System on the skin .
