Insulin doses for meals

The CGM values are put in the bolus calculator of the pump to charge the insulin amount for the carbohydrates of the meal. The bolus calculator of the insulin pump consider the active insulin amount in the body to avoid over correction. This important function is also used to correct higher glucose values.

If the meal contains a huge  mass of carbohydrates, proteins or lipids the meal bolus will be better split into two parts and given the second part after a later time period.

For example  a meal with about 75-100 gr protein elevates the glucose levels as same as 20 gr. of carbohydrates, but very slowly over two hours afterwards. (Study: Influence of dietary protein on postprandial blood glucose levels... M.A. Paterson Diabetic Medicine 6 Dec 2015)
